North Sumatra trip chap-1

Couple weeks ago, a good friend of mine from Holland told me that she need me to accompany her cousin and his wife to North Sumatera since i was born there and grow up there even though i spend quarter of my life in this city but still i can't deny my self that i am Sumatera Gorilla. I just agree to accompany this old couple (yes, they are almost same age with my beloved mother) to Sumatra from 8 to 13 February.
In the airport of Bandung where we departure got some problem which Eddy, the white male gorilla bring crockscrew (wine opener) in his bag so the security need to hold the things but on the plane Eddy told me that actually he bring short knife in his bag and the security miss it!
Everything was fine after arrived in Medan, North Sumatera capital city. We had Tiongsim noodle (very typical hand-made noodle with meats in it) for dinner.

Liesbeth, Eddy, and me at the restaurant

Early in the morning we start our adventure to Parapat city, it's a small city right beside Toba Lake.We had lunch at Tebing Tinggi, an hour before Parapat and Liesbeth, Eddy's wife get her jaw open when she saw pisang goreng stall and she got good apetite for pisang goreng

Lunch at Tebing TInggi with Soto, Lemang and Pisang Goreng

Me and Liesbeth at Pisang Goreng Stall

When we arrived in the hotel (Darma Agung Lake View Hotel) we only see the sign board of the hotel and a small hut with "front office" on the door, we start asking each other..."WHERE THE HELL IS THE HOTEL BUILDING!". We walk to the front office and still curious where will we sleep tonight. We get the room key and the bell boy bring us to downstair (there's a small stair near the front office table). Entering the room and we saw another door to terrace, after we open the door what we saw is Danau Toba with almost sunset view and i believe that my jaw was dropping too when i saw it.

View from terrace

For few hours we spend our time on terrace, talking about culture, government and a lot of things until dinner time we walk to Hongkong Restaurant, about 10 minutes walk from our hotel, and bought some souvenirs from Lake Toba with a very reasonable price.

Day 2, we catch the ferry boat to Tuk-Tuk on Samosir Island. It takes about an hour and many things to see on the boat. I bought an duck's boiled egg for breakfast. The taste are so sweet and much much different with chicken's egg....LEKKER!

can you see the duck's eggs???

There is a motorcycle that brings a lot of doughnuts and breads

Another interesting view is there's a bus, carrying a group of people that deliver dead person to Samosir Island

Samosir Island is a small island in the middle of Lake Toba with a very strong culture of Batak people, they believe that Toba is Tanah Orang Batak Asli (Native of Bataknese Land). Land in Samosir are fertile and beautiful

Our 1st destination in Samosir is Ambarita an hour from Tomok (ferry harbour in Samosir). In Ambarita, there's a (former) King Sialagan complex houses, with stone chair and many batak traditional house. In past time, King Sialagan is a judge for this village, in that stone chair the fugitive, judge, king's magician, and other elders of the village will decide if someone make a small crime like stealing, they will put in a jail under the king house. For big crime like killing or raping, they will lost their head.

Next destination is Simalundong, a small village on the north samosir island. There's a museum, king's tomb, and dancing show from the villagers with a puppet name Sigale-gale. There's a story on it but....i don't think i'll write it on this blog since it will be fairytale to sleep. but well, it's a good show and it was a very very hot day so we just rush back to hotel for lunch.....
In Samosir Island we stay in Carolina Hotel, very nice hotel with very low price, just beside the lake so the guest can just jump to the lake toba. The food in hotel score 5/10 but there's a Bataknese restaurant just in front of the hotel are delicious, but the price rather high.

The next day, we go back to catch the ferry and we arrived just in time before the ferry close the door!!!
Next destination is Berastagi,.......and the story continues
